YOD Gallery is opening a new space at the Terrada Art Complex in Tennozu, Tokyo. This complex, one of Japan's largest gallery complexes, houses numerous domestic and international art galleries and is located on the third floor of Terrada Art Complex II.

Established in Osaka in 2008, YOD Gallery has actively promoted new values and expressions both domestically and internationally. In addition to its original Osaka location, YOD Editions opened in 2020, and YOD Tokyo opened in Omotesando, Tokyo, in 2022. These new spaces host various exhibitions across genres, aiming to serve as a hub for next-generation culture.

The Tokyo branch of YOD Gallery continues the spirit of the original gallery while reexamining the present in light of art history. It will introduce exhibitions featuring artists and works with unique artistic viewpoints, ranging from traditional to experimental.

The inaugural exhibition for the new space will be "Nobuo Sekine: Sky and Skin."

Nobuo Sekine (1942-2019) was a prominent figure in the Mono-ha movement, which dominated the art world in the 1960s and 1970s. After completing his studies at Tama Art University in 1968, Sekine gained recognition for works such as "Phase—Earth" exhibited at the first Suma Rikyu Park Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition in 1968. This work is regarded as a seminal piece in the Mono-ha movement and post-war Japanese art. In 1970, he represented Japan at the Venice Biennale, further cementing his reputation. Even after moving to Los Angeles, Sekine continued to create vigorously until he died in 2019. The works on display in this exhibition are from the final years of his career in Los Angeles.

Sekine's work consistently reflects traditional Eastern spirituality while showing respect for the surrounding environment and space. The Tokyo gallery is located in Shinagawa, an area combining old land with new reclaimed land. Placing Sekine's works in this gallery, which was formerly a warehouse, may create new meanings and contexts.

The exhibition will feature approximately 30 pieces from Sekine's "Sky and Skin" series, along with drawings from his creative process.
