Yoshinari Nishio
Nishinari-ku, Osaka City, has an extremely high population density due to its proximity to the city and is known as a commercial and industrial district with convenient transportation and a downtown atmosphere. In recent years, the number of elderly single-person households in this area has been significantly higher than in other parts of the city, and at the same time, the surrounding environment has been changing drastically with the development of urban resorts. Against this backdrop, the fashion brand "Nishinari Yosiho" was born in 2018 as a collaboration between artist Yoshinari Nishio and elderly women who gather at “Kioku,” a center of creative activity.
The clothes of "Nishinari Yoshio" were created based on the theme of designing a jacket or pants for a person close to the members who live in Nishinari. One of the features of this project is that each garment is made from a different fabric, utilizing the unneeded fabrics that collect in the "tansu" (drawer). One of the concepts of this project is to propose clothes for daily life, which are defined as "work clothes," based on the unexpected arrangements and leaps of imagination by local women and the discrepancies with the image Nishio has in mind.
