Naoto Mitsuhashi
This solo exhibition features the mystical landscapes of Mount Odai, located in the Oku-Yoshino region of southern Nara Prefecture, an area rich in mountain worship culture. Captivated by its mystical scenery, the artist moved from Osaka to the village of Kamikitayama, a village at the foot of the mountain with a population of about 450 people. Since 2020, the artist has visited the mountain weekly, capturing the seasonal landscapes and unique views unseen by others, as well as expressing the ancient Japanese concept of "Kannabi," which holds that gods reside within nature. The exhibition showcases the mystical natural landscapes of Mount Odai.

In addition to a strong focus on the subjects and themes of the works, the exhibition also pays great attention to the framing, art paper, and presentation. The frames are crafted by a workshop in Kamikitayama Village, the forestry village where the artist has relocated. These frames are made by village artisans using local wood, displaying the photographs in a way that integrates the village’s essence. The print paper used is large-format fine art paper from Hahnemühle, a renowned German manufacturer. The works are displayed using a method that makes the photographs appear to float, employing acrylic panels on both the front and back of the frames.
