Momoko Sakura
"The Momoko Sakura Exhibition" delves into the enduring allure of Momoko Sakura, a versatile artist who excelled as a manga artist, essayist, lyricist, and scriptwriter, continually creating new characters and essays. Making her debut as a manga artist in 1984 with "Thank God I'm Alive!," she went on to produce popular works such as "Chibi Maruko-chan" and "Coji-Coji". Her diverse repertoire includes works beloved by children and adults alike, as well as pieces showcasing a dark and chaotic sense of humor, like "Kami no Chikara", "Eizawa-kun", and "Chibi Shikaku-chan".

Particularly notable is "Chibi Maruko-chan", serialized in the shoujo manga magazine "Ribon" (Shueisha) in 1986 and adapted into an anime in 1990, becoming a beloved national manga cherished by people of all ages.

Her debut essay collection "Momono Kanzume" published in 1991 became a massive bestseller with over 2.9 million copies sold (as of January 2024). As an essayist, Sakura continued to captivate readers with subsequent works like "Saru no Kokeshi", "Tai no Okashira", forming the popular "Momoko Sakura Essay Trilogy". She further demonstrated her skill as an essayist exploring various stages of life with works like "Hitorizumo" and "Onbu Nidakko", incorporating episodes of pregnancy and childbirth in "Sō iu Fū ni Dekiteiru".

Beyond manga and essays, she authored numerous books aimed at young children, such as "Ehon Maru Koji", a dream collaboration featuring Chibi Maruko-chan and Coji-Coji.

This exhibition showcases approximately 300 color original paintings and handwritten manuscripts, including representative works, in an unprecedented volume. Exclusive displays and plans unique to the Tokyo venue are also scheduled.
