Modern Japanese Paintings Collection: Japanese Landscapes and Oil Paintings

Nakata Museum
Finished
After the Meiji period (1868-1912), when oil paintings were introduced from the West along with the modernization of Japan, Japanese painters were greatly inspired by the realistic depiction of perspective and shading and the innovative expression of the Impressionists and the Fauvists. They sought individual expression while accepting various styles of Western oil painting and shaped the history of modern Western-style painting in Japan. This exhibition will introduce works of various Japanese painters influenced by Western painting styles.
