Mleiha Treasures of the Ancient Arabian Maritime Caravan Kingdom from Sharjah

Miho Museum
Finished
In 2015, a major discovery made at the Mleiha archaeological site in the Emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) confirmed the existence of a Hellenistic-era Oman kingdom that dates back to the third century BC. This site was likely the capital of this ancient kingdom. Excavations here have unearthed a royal palace, town walls, residential buildings, and a cemetery, with objects showing influences from Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Parthian, Central Asian, and Indian cultures.

Mleiha vanished suddenly in the fourth century but left behind a rich cultural legacy that speaks of ancient maritime exchanges. Over a hundred recently discovered artifacts from this site, including many National Treasures and Important Cultural Property, belonging to the Sharjah Archaeological Authority, will be featured in this exhibition.
