Mingei - The Beauty of Everyday Things

Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design
Finished
About 100 years ago, philosopher Muneyoshi Yanagi promoted the concept of "Mingei," which values beauty in everyday life and honors materials and artisans. This concept is now being revisited and integrated into modern living. The exhibition explores Mingei through the themes of clothing, food, and shelter, showcasing around 150 beautiful items used in daily life. It also highlights regions where Mingei is still practiced, featuring craftspeople and traditional techniques. A notable feature is an installation by Terry Ellis and Keiko Kitamura, merging contemporary lifestyles with Mingei.
