Mikado02 is an artist collective consisting of Shuhei Yamada, Kazuma Koike, and Keisuke Jinba. The name "mikado" evokes the idea of "emperor" in Japanese, but in Europe, it refers to a table game involving bamboo sticks and also to the snack "Pocky." While these associations are quite different, they are connected through a shift in meaning and interpretation, similar to a game of associations.

Mikado02 aims to introduce "gaps" or "discrepancies" into the format of art, incorporating seemingly meaningless play and attitudes into their creative acts, and seeking to complement these with their work. This work reflects on the Buddhist teaching that all phenomena and events are constantly changing and that nothing is eternal. In this exhibition, each artist—Yamada with his dada-esque flat works, Koike with totemic ceramic sculptures inspired by various idols, and Jinba with paintings intertwining personal experiences and art history—creates works in response to this theme. The images presented are mixed and presented like a flow that changes without remaining static in one place.
