Masato Kobayashi
rin art association is pleased to present “FAMILY / Family of this Planet”, a solo exhibition by Masato Kobayashi.
Kobayashi’s paintings, which he paints while stretching the canvas, are created by physically interacting with the irregularly cut two-dimensional canvas and using his fingers, hands and other body parts to directly apply paint to the canvas, while at the same time being fixed in the world of a wooden frame. The painting fixed precariously in the world of frame is a children of another painting, which repeatedly leads to the birth of a new child painting.

“Every work of art is part of a painting family!” says Kobayashi.

In this exhibition entitled “FAMILY / Family of this Planet”, floor-mounted and wall-hung paintings, a mixture of old and new, are arranged on each of the gallery’s three floors, illuminated by a variety of light. The painting of a horse with a paintbrush in its mouth is “Portrait of the artist”, the painting of a model facing the artist is “Model of this Planet”, and “Lemons” depicts lemons from Artist’s studio by the seaside. It is like a house where the paintings form a living family of stars!

And “Feeling A”, a heart-shaped canvas paired with “Feeling B”, jumped out of the frame and hung on the wall of Shiroiya Hotel in Maebashi. “Pairs may be happy to be together, but there are times when they can’t be…”
We hope you will enjoy the way the family of paintings gathered during the Christmas season.
