Masahiro Sambe "Glass Tableware in Still Life"

Artists

Masahiro Sambe
In 2018, the Glass Tableware in Still Life project started with the idea of Yoko Andersson Yamano, a glass artist based in Sweden, along with photographer Masahiro Sanbe and graphic designer Yuri Sugiyama. Eighteen painters from Japan, Sweden, and Germany participated in the project. The painters ordered glassware from Yamano and depicted the glass in their styles.

This book features photographs taken by Masahiro Sanbe in the painters' studios, showcasing the glassware created by Yamano and the still-life paintings by the artists. Using an 8x10 large-format camera, the transparent glassware and still-life paintings were photographed in each painter's studio (glassware on black-and-white film, still-life paintings on color film). Additionally, scenes of the painters' studios were captured on black-and-white film with a 35mm camera.

In this exhibition, selected prints from the art book "Glass Tableware in Still Life" (Torch Press) will be presented alongside unreleased photographs, in conjunction with the ongoing exhibition "Glass Tableware and Still Life Paintings: Yuko Andersson Yamano and 18 Painters" at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery.
