Masafumi Sanai
Photographer Masafumi Sanai debuted in 1997 with his photo book Ikiteiru and received the Kimura Ihei Photography Award in 2003 for MAP. Since 2008, he has been publishing numerous photo books under his independent label, Taisho. Now, the second installment of the exhibition series Tentaishow at Vacant will feature a selection of works from these publications, available for display and purchase.
Following the success of the first installment last year, this exhibition centers around Sanai's latest photo book, The photo, coming home, while also showcasing selected works from ARCA (2008) and Pylon (2011). Each beautiful print, carefully hand-printed in Sanai's atelier, is presented in custom-made frames exclusively designed for Tentaishow.
In a time when the meaning and significance of photography have undergone dramatic changes, Sanai has remained steadfast in his commitment to capturing "photographs." What kinds of landscapes and words will emerge on this journey back to the essence of photography?
