Artists

Makoto Nakada
Makoto Nakada takes a unique approach to wood carving that differs from conventional wood carving practices. Instead of following a process that typically involves sawing and chiseling, Nakadama employs a methodology specific to the artist, combining analog craftsmanship with digital techniques. The delicate works created by Nakada often revolve around familiar shapes for Japanese people, such as origami, chess pieces, and swords, but they also incorporate surface elements reminiscent of electronic circuit boards or intricate machinery, evoking a futuristic, science-fiction-like world of urban landscapes and spaceships. Moreover, the incredibly fine details, which are difficult to discern without the use of a magnifying glass, reveal familiar shapes of everyday objects like pipes, outdoor air conditioning units, and ventilation fans upon closer inspection. These details, combined with the natural expressions of the wood, evoke a sense of familiarity and nostalgia.

This exhibition will primarily showcase new works and videos that were not displayed in the January exhibition.
