Maki Oi
Maki Oi, a promising sculptor working with ceramics, is currently showcasing a solo exhibition. Inspired by Yawata Town in Toyama, Oi considers it the source of creative inspiration. Oi's work is influenced by the traditional dances preserved by the local people, and the essence of creative passion is found in the evolving "gestures" of these dances, reflecting the history of the land. Using clay as the medium, the artist's artistic expression becomes a dance resonating with the region's history, embodying the wind, nature's rhythms, and people's aspirations. Oi believes in the "sympathy" between people and objects when individuals are moved by a form, viewing this moment as an exploration of the pulsating essence within the artist and a quest to understand fundamental human elements. The artist considers ceramics as a material representing the beauty in nature's fundamental aspects, encouraging viewers to connect with bodily senses and perceive the energy within objects, whether inanimate or alive.
