Mabel Poblet
Chanel Nexus Hall has been participating in the Kyotographie Kyoto International Photography Festival since 2013. This year, the exhibition " Where Oceans Meet," which was held at the Chanel Nexus Hall in March, will be traveling to the festival.

Mabel Poblet is one of the youngest artists active on the Cuban contemporary art scene, with a diverse practice that incorporates a variety of techniques, including photography, mixed media, video art, kinetic art, and performance art. 2017's Venice Biennale featured “Scale of Values.”

Poblet draws on her own experiences of identity and connection to the world as a young person growing up in Cuba under Fidel Castro, and through her artwork, she shares her experiences with viewers and asks them questions about Cuban society and the world today.

This exhibition is an opportunity to experience Mabel Poblet's important themes of "water" and "sea" through various forms of expression. The "sea" is a motif that shows the similarities between Cuba and Japan, both island countries that coexist with the "sea". The sea divides us, but it also unites us. Migration across the sea is a familiar phenomenon in contemporary Cuban society, and it occupies an important place in Mavel Poblet's work. The sea is an entity that sometimes saves and sometimes brings disaster. Poblet observes, talks about, and questions its essential role without judging whether it is good or bad.

In this exhibition, in addition to the "My Autumn" series, which examines human fragility and is composed of pyramid-shaped origami, the "Homeland" series, which focuses on immigration, and the "Travel Diary" series, which fragments and reconstructs images from photographs taken on her travels, Poblet will also present the video work “Sublimation” from the Buoyancy series, which is a series of fragmented and reconstructed images of photographs taken on the road, as well as works expressed through a variety of techniques including photography, video, and installations.
