The National Art Center, Tokyo
Finished

Artists

Joseph Mallord William Turner, Olafur Eliasson et al.
Carefully selected from the collection at the Tate in the UK, this exhibition will follow the creative trajectory of original works that harness light spanning over 200 years of art history, from the late 1800s to the present day.

This wide range of artworks will feature those by icons of British historic art such as the “painter of light” Joseph Mallord William Turner and virtuoso landscape painter John Constable, explorations of light by Impressionists including Claude Monet, experimental work by László Moholy-Nagy and Bauhaus photographers, and visual experiences by contemporary artists including Bridget Riley, James Turrell, and Olafur Eliasson.

Visitors can look forward to an unprecedented opportunity to see over 120 works produced across time and space, to make discoveries, and to experience how the qualities of light as both material and subject have inspired generations of artists.
