Kyosuke Yamaguchi "Little Mimuzushi (Blue)" Mixed media 180 x 180 x 140mm

Kyosuke Yamaguchi Exhibition

Kyoto Tsutaya Books
Until Sep 30

Artists

Kyosuke Yamaguchi
Kyosuke Yamaguchi creates "Mimuzushi," humanoid creatures covered in fluffy fur. Inspired by his mother's mysterious childhood tale of seeing a bird with a human face, Yamaguchi began creating these creatures during his university years. He has produced a wide variety of Mimuzushi, ranging from palm-sized ones around 20cm to those over 2 meters tall, all covered in colorful, soft fur and featuring ambiguous expressions that do not convey any specific emotions.

This exhibition will showcase around 10 pieces, focusing on works made with fur and including new pieces where he has planted thin leather strings individually like body hair to explore new expressions. Mimuzushi are eerie yet adorable creatures that do not exist in the real world. While they remain the foundation of Yamaguchi's artistic journey, they also continue to evolve.
