Kouji Nakahara
The Kibibi Museum has been promoting the fascination of Kibi's history and culture through the exhibition of its collection, which spans from ancient to modern times. In addition, as the second exhibition of the museum's efforts to focus on local artists active in Japan and abroad and to introduce their creative activities, the museum is featuring ceramic artist Kouji Nakahara.

Nakahara was born in Osaka and studied under Bizen Pottery artist Fumio Kawabata. He is a recipient of the 9th Encouragement Prize of Okayama Prefecture “I-ji Prize" for the cultivation of up-and-coming artists and is a regular member of the Japan Crafts Association.

Nakahara’s work is based on Bizen clay, and he has a high level of technique to realize various expressions such as kneading and gilding, as well as a sensitivity to interpret traditional craft motifs in a modern and humorous way. In recent years, he has focused more on object-like figurative works, expanding the range of his work.

Nakahara's works, which continue to develop while moving back and forth between Bizen clay and other materials, large and small, past and present, crafts and art, will encounter the museum's bamboo garden, tea ceremony room, hall, and Yusai-no-Ma room to reveal a new world to viewers.
