Koiso Portrait Museum

Kobe City Koiso Memorial Museum of Art
Finished
The Koiso City Memorial Museum of Art celebrates its 30th anniversary in the fall of 2022. The museum is the first of three museums on Rokko Island.

Returning to its starting point of "Rokko Island's Culture Starts Here," the museum will exhibit a wide range of oil paintings and drawings from its collection.

The special feature is the Koiso Portrait Museum. Portrait paintings, which are rarely shown to the public, will be exhibited in one place. Ryohei Koiso, known for his portraits, was commissioned to create not a few portraits. However, it is difficult to introduce portraits of individuals in the permanent exhibition because they do not fit the theme of the exhibition very well. It is overwhelmingly men who are depicted, and it will be a different space than usual for them to be lined up. The portrait of Tatsuo Miyazaki, who served five terms as mayor of Kobe, is a portrait of a person closely associated with the opening of the museum.

The "Hyogo Prefecture Tour" feature will include landscapes such as "Awaji Izanagi Shrine" and "Mikage Landscape," as well as other materials. Works by Kazuo Masui, Kazumi Motokawa, and other painters associated with Kobe will also be on display.
