Kenji Inumaki + Seiichi Shibata Exhibition

Gallery Yamaki Fine Art
Finished

Artists

Kenji Inumaki, Seiichi Shibata
Kenji Inumaki, a leading figure in post-war Japanese art who garnered renewed attention in recent years for his pioneering and unique works, passed away in January 2023. In honor of Inumaki's achievements, Gallery Yamaki Fine Art will host a series of tribute exhibitions, approaching his contributions from various perspectives.

The first installment of this series focuses on "Like Jomon Lines," a collection of works created by Inumaki in his later years using his self-made roller. Alongside these pieces, the exhibition will feature ambitious works by Seiichi Shibata, who has been working with woodblock prints in recent years. Both artists share a common interest in lines, colors, and the overlap of these elements, presenting unique ideas about spatial issues in two-dimensional art. Their creative activities stripped down to simple actions and free from arbitrariness, offer us fresh surprises that go beyond the motivations and intentions of their creations.

Through a comparative exhibition of Inumaki's and Shibata's works, this exhibition aims to reflect on Inumaki's achievements from new perspectives. It seeks to highlight the influence on future artists who will carry on his legacy and bring to light the inherited thoughts. The exhibition hopes to create a space for discoveries and values by intersecting their vectors.
