Ken Wakayama
Ken Wakayama (1930-2015) is a picture book author known for works such as "Shirokuma-chan no hottoke-ki" (1972, Koguma-sha). This is the first exhibition of his works to be held in Japan.

The "Koguma-chan Ehon" series (Koguma-sha), consisting of 15 titles in total, has been read by generations since the first title "Koguma-chan Good Morning" was published in 1970. This exhibition will take advantage of the 50th anniversary of "Koguma-chan Hon", which was created with the idea of "creating the first picture book that Japanese children would encounter", to introduce its enduring appeal and the unknown process of its creation.

The exhibition also includes "Kitsune-yama no Yomeiri" (first published in 1968, revised in 1978 by Koguma-sha), which conveys a message to modern society through its gentle and fantastic expressions; the series featuring the crying but hardworking "Ghost Doron Doron" (1980-89, Poplar Publishing); and picture books based on Japanese folk tales, as well as poems and poetry. The exhibition also explores Wakayama's diverse creative activities, including picture books based on Japanese folktales and illustrations for poetry collections.

The exhibition will feature approximately 230 items, including original illustrations for picture books, lithographs printed in the process of picture book production, original magazine covers, and related materials.
