Keith Haring (1958-1990) has many fans around the world for his bright and pop-infused imagery. With a strong belief that “art is for everybody”, he disseminated his work throughout everyday life using the subway and streets based primarily in 1980s New York as a means of conveying a powerful social messages to a chaotic society. This exhibition provides a precious opportunity to experience Haring's diverse forms of expressions over the course of his short 31-year life through approximately 150 pieces, including paintings, prints and drawings, mainly from the collections of the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection.

Opened in 2010 on the third floor of the Aoi Tower at the north exit of JR Shizuoka Station, the museum's basic philosophy is to "create and disseminate art and culture that inspires people and communities." The museum is a three-minute walk from JR Shizuoka Station and can be reached without getting wet by using the underground passage.

The mainstay of the museum's activities is its year-round special exhibition program. The exhibition rooms are approximately 1,100m² in size, with a ceiling height of 4.1-4.5m, and are designed to display national treasures, important cultural properties, and other nationally designated cultural assets. The main focus is on fine arts, but exhibitions of a wide range of genres such as design and crafts are also held.

In addition, the entrance hall, multipurpose room, and workshop room are positioned as the "Exchange Zone," where various exchange zone programs will be held, including the introduction of the contemporary art scene, concerts, lectures, and workshops. From first-time visitors to avid art fans, and from the elderly to children who will be responsible for the future of art museums, we aim to create an urban art museum that is “a kind of interesting plaza in the city" where anyone can casually stop by.
