新たな美術品を収集する活動である「収活」。2017年4月から2021年6月までリニューアル工事のため休館していましたが、その間にも収集活動は継続的に行っており、その数は購入・寄贈・寄託を含めて228件に上ります。また、収集した文化財を良好な状態で保存・公開するため、作品の修理活動「修活」は、休館中に71件を行いました。展覧会や教育普及活動などとは異なり、目には見えづらい「シュウカツ」に焦点を当てます。
「護る、伝える、保存修理活動」では、マザーレイク寄附金で修理した横井金谷の屏風を始め、多様な素材と技法の「修理」を紹介します。あわせて軸装や屏風などの表具に必要な裂や紙を紹介し、作品と一体となって構成し、よりよく見せるための要素にも注目します。
