Kazuyo Kinoshita - A Retrospective

Museum of Modern Art, Saitama
Until Jan 13

Artists

Kazuyo Kinoshita
Kazuyo Kinoshita (1939-1994) was one of the leading artists representing postwar art in the Kansai region, based in Hyogo. From the mid-1960s, he worked with an avant-garde art group formed in Kobe, exploring themes such as existence, perception, and space, using photography to express the discrepancies between three-dimensional and two-dimensional images. In 1981, he held a solo exhibition in Germany and later shifted his focus towards painting. However, until he died in 1994, he grappled with the philosophical question, "What is existence?"

This exhibition, marking 30 years since the artist's passing, will showcase a comprehensive collection of his representative works from his early to late periods, presenting the first-ever solo exhibition at a museum in Japan that explores the entirety of his career.
