Kazumi Shimoide
Since the early stages of her career as a painter, Kazumi Shimoide has consistently depicted fields and young girls as his motifs. Using photographs she has taken to determine the backgrounds, Shimoide paints various creatures, including the land tortoise she keeps at home, and a young girl (or boy), with a simplified touch somewhat different from the detailed background depiction. Animals and figures, as well as the background, are arranged with nearly equal value, paying attention to density and space, and sometimes animals are placed for control of light and shadow, providing a subtle tension to the charming scenes.

In this exhibition, one can observe Shimode's bold attempts at composition and placement of motifs compared to previous works.
