Until Oct 27

Artists

Kazuhiko Shimamoto
Kazuhiko Shimamoto made his debut in 1982 in the "Weekly Shonen Sunday February Special Issue" with "The Deadly Transfer Student". His distinctive blend of parody and story-driven comedy captured readers' hearts with its fresh and engaging style. Later, he began serializing "The Blazing Transfer Student" in "Weekly Shonen Sunday". His influence extended into works like the live-action film "The Nine Lives of the Tough Guy" depicting a baseball team's journey from disbandment to the Koshien championship, and "Burning Pen" which explored the intense dedication of a serialized manga artist.
Continuing since 2007, his manga "Blue Blazes" portrays art school students aspiring to become manga artists, reflecting the cultural and societal context of the time, and won the 60th Shogakukan Manga Award in the General category.

Beyond manga, Shimamoto has been active as a radio personality at a local station, became president of the family business in 2018, and recently launched the "Kazuhiko Shimamoto's Zekkyo University" channel on a video streaming site, continuing his prolific creative activities based in his hometown of Hokkaido.

Interestingly, Shimamoto's real name is Hidehiko Tezuka, finding inspiration in Osamu Tezuka, the "God of Manga", which influenced his decision to become a manga artist.

In conjunction with the Osamu Tezuka Memorial Museum, the exhibition is subtitled "The Two Tezukas". Featuring original exhibits unique to the Osamu Tezuka Memorial Museum, "The Blazing Illustration Exhibition Ver. 2" invites visitors to experience the powerful world of Shimamoto through over 40 years of his original manuscript artworks.
