Kazu Wakita + Churyo Sato Exhibition

Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Kazu Wakita, Churyo Sato
The Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art has received a donation from the Wakita Museum and currently houses 321 works by Kazu Wakita. This exhibition is the second installment of a series designed to convey the charm of Wakita's works, featuring pieces by artists who had close ties with Wakita. The exhibition will also highlight Churyo Sato (1912–2005), who, alongside Wakita, was active in the New Productionist Association and led the post-war Japanese figurative sculpture scene.

Wakita and Sato were deeply involved in art education for a long time, and they left behind many works featuring common motifs such as family, children in their surroundings, and women. Additionally, their picture books, "Odango-pan" (Wakita) and "The Big Turnip" (Sato), have been beloved bestsellers. This exhibition, along with original illustrations from their respective picture books, will display around 100 representative works, including paintings, sculptures, sketches, and prints, allowing visitors to feel the gaze of each artist toward children. The exhibition will also introduce the relationship between the two as comrades who pursued the heights of their art throughout their lives.
