Artists

Kaoru Ueda
Kaoru Ueda (1928 - ) depicts familiar motifs such as raw eggs and jelly in a surrealistic manner. This exhibition introduces Kaoru Ueda's works from his early years to his latest works, in which he pursued realism to the utmost limit in his unique style.

Kaoru Ueda was born in Tokyo in 1928, graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1954, and began his career as an abstract painter. After working as a graphic designer, Ueda returned to painting in the 1960s, and in the 1970s established his own unique photographic expression that uses photographs to elaborately depict the subject matter, and the reality of his work continues to fascinate children and adults alike. His method of elaborately depicting the subject based on photographs that capture the moment offers a new perspective and delights the eyes of viewers even today, when information technology is advancing and photographic and video expression continues to evolve.

In this exhibition, not only his oil paintings with enlarged motifs and hyper-realistic renderings but also his drawings from his college days and his early abstract paintings will be on display. Furthermore, the latest works painted this year will be introduced, allowing visitors to experience Ueda's insatiable pursuit and challenge in painting, as he continues to express himself in a wide variety of ways while moving away from super-realism.
