Artists

Kaoru Hirano
Kaoru Hirano’s solo exhibition Flag will feature works centered on Japan’s national flag, the "Hinomaru," which she meticulously unravels thread by thread and reconstructs by hand. Since 2023, Hirano has been developing this series, using physical transformation to question cultural, historical, and personal identity. By deconstructing the flag, a simple yet powerful symbol, and reshaping it into new forms, she creates fresh insights into traditional symbols and ingrained perceptions. This installation provides viewers with an opportunity to rethink national icons and individual identity, as well as our understanding of these concepts. With a harmonious blend of meticulous craftsmanship and bold ideas, Hirano’s exhibition provides a rich visual and intellectual experience that encourages deep contemplation.
