Junsaku Koizumi: A Centennial Exhibition

Kenninji Temple
Finished

Artists

Junsaku Koizumi
The Nihonga painter Junsaku Koizumi (1924-2012) is renowned for his Buddhist temple ceiling paintings of dragons, such as Paired Dragons (Kenninji, Kyoto) and Dragon in Clouds (Kenchōji, Kamakura).
Kenninji, a temple closely linked to Koizumi, will host this retrospective commemorating the October 2024 centennial of his birth.
Through major works spanning Koizumi’s 70-year career, this exhibition will convey his unique, richly emotive painting style with its unfailing sense of presence.
