The Open Studio of the "Joshibi Artist-in-Residence" program at Joshibi University of Art and Design, which invites and supports female artists active both domestically and internationally, is now open. For the program from October to December, two artists, Lisa Grosskopf, a graduate of the University of Applied Arts Vienna and active globally, and Natsumi Ito, who completed the university's graduate program in Western Painting in March of this year, were selected through an open call and engaged in creative activities.

During their residency, Lisa Grosskopf conducted research on Purikura (Japanese photo booths) and omiai (arranged meetings for the purpose of marriage), attempting an approach that deconstructs gender, beauty values, and marriage in Japanese society. Additionally, Natsumi Ito delved into the extensive materials stored in the university's historical archive, uncovering writings and doodles left in notebooks, sketchbooks, and illustrated letters by past students. Through the repetitive imitation of handwriting and writing habits, she created three-dimensional and painted works.

The title "Embodied Echoes" is derived from the resonance and response of the two artists to the environments and relationships they find themselves in. The exhibition will showcase the new initiatives and creative processes of these two artists, each with a different approach and expression.
