Artists

Toshio Iwai
The creator of the popular picture book "The 100-Story House," Toshio Iwai, is also one of Japan's leading media artists, Toshio Iwai. From a young age, Iwai had a strong interest in animation, and through his series "Time Strata," which evolved flipbooks and phenakistoscopes using modern technology, he established his unique form of media art.

This exhibition connects Iwai's media art with the 19th-century visual devices that served as its foundation, revealing the fascinating visual experiences created by light and motion, as well as the relentless curiosity of the scientists and artists who developed these technologies.
