As autumn deepens and the vibrant fall foliage grace Kyoto, Galerie Taménaga Kyoto is thrilled to present the Ima Kyoto exhibition, running from Saturday, November 23rd to Sunday, December 15th, 2024. This exhibition celebrates contemporary Japanese artists, showcasing their works in Kyoto—a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage and artistic tradition. Now in its third edition, Ima Kyoto was founded with the goal of inspiring and sharing a lasting legacy of creative expression by artists connected to this storied city. Since its inception, the exhibition has sparked an exciting exploration of new possibilities within Kyoto’s dynamic contemporary art scene.

This year’s exhibition will feature approximately 30 captivating works by five exceptional artists Rieko Egami, who creates spaces composed of imaginary, artificial structures and plants; Ryōichi Taguchi, who produces Japanese-style paintings incorporating metal leaf sheets treated with haku-yaki, a technique that alters their color; Kozue Tanaka, who paints oil portraits of unfamiliar individuals reflected in her travel photography, as well as landscapes; Arata Higuchi, who uses vivid mineral pigments to depict nature’s flora and fauna; and Yoshihiko Yamazaki, who captures fragments of modern life through acrylic paintings, preserving fleeting moments and memories.

We warmly invite guests to immerse themselves in an experience that bridges the innovative spirit of contemporary art with Kyoto’s rich, timeless narrative and artistic sensibilities, shaped by a thousand years of history.
