Ikuo Hirayama
For Ikuo Hirayama, "paths" were essential elements that connected cities, facilitating cultural and religious exchanges and trade. He believed that peace enabled people to travel freely along these paths. Therefore, in artwork imbued with his prayers for peace, Hirayama depicted various "paths." This exhibition introduces "Oku no Hosomichi" (The Narrow Road to the Deep North), inspired by Basho Matsuo, as well as the Silk Road, synonymous with Hirayama's artistic career, and the Yamato Road, its endpoint.
