The overall theme of the exhibition is "Igoku Tamaru, Mata Igoku," which means "move, gather, and move again" in the Kinan dialect of Wakayama Prefecture.

The slime molds, which the renowned naturalist Kumagusu Minakata from the Kinan region studied throughout his life, sometimes move like animals, sometimes stay (gather) like plants, and sometimes become spores to move to new places. In this way, slime molds dynamically change their form while adapting to their environment. Additionally, soil, which forms the base for slime molds and plants, emerges from the interweaving of biological remains and microorganisms, existing within a grand cycle.

Humans and the Earth have also moved, gathered, and moved repeatedly throughout history. This has led to the formation of nations and ethnic groups, evolution, and development, but also destruction due to ideological and ethnic conflicts. In today's world, where polarization and territorial disputes are intensifying, considering it as part of the process of change and movement, like the world of slime molds, might help us rediscover the freedom humans possess.

Kinan Art Week 2024 aims to explore the idea of living flexibly without being confined to specific places, perspectives, or values, much like the way slime molds and soil. This will be done through various experiences with artists' works and workshops.
