Ichigo Sugawara
Ichigo Sugawara is a versatile artist who not only works as a photographer but also serves as a cinematographer for films. His graphical works, which go beyond documentary photography and capture the essence of the Aomori-based recycling company "Seinan Shoji" since 2009, have finally caught the attention of the times, and he is currently gaining significant recognition.

One of the projects Sugawara has been focusing on in recent years is the "Makino Botanical Art Project," which aims to convey the lifetime work and thoughts of the botanist Dr. Tomitaro Makino. The presence and achievements of Dr. Makino received renewed attention from the NHK morning serial drama "Ranman," which aired in April 2022. Before this, Sugawara began photographing Dr. Makino's specimens at the Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden in 2021. Growing up, Sugawara had a fondness for field guides, and Dr. Makino's botanical illustrations were familiar to him. However, seeing the specimens from nearly 120 years ago firsthand as a photographer strongly appealed to him. He confronts each specimen as if taking a portrait, aligning his gaze with Dr. Makino's perspective.
