Osaka Ukiyoe Museum
Finished

Artists

Hokusai Katsushika, Hiroshige Utagawa
In the late Edo period (1603-1868), with the development of highways and inns, travel for worship and pilgrimage became very popular among the general public, and many books and ukiyo-e prints depicting places of interest throughout Japan were published.

This exhibition focuses on Hokusai Katsushika and Hiroshige Utagawa, who are known as the masters of Ukiyoe, and will display “meisho-e," which depict famous places loved by people in the Edo period, and “Dochu-e," Ukiyoe prints that show people on their journeys.

Another highlight of the exhibition is the introduction of some of the famous places of interest and long-established stores and specialties that continue to be found today in the places where the works were set.
