Hiroto Tomonaga
Hiroto Tomonaga captures the moment when something in front of his eyes suddenly looks different, and tries to make it happen in his paintings. The changes that occur in the artist's eyes are gradually transformed into the quality of the paint in the painting and fixed on the screen. The paintings, while fixed in place, also contain a sense of movement, which is an expression of the artist's own sense of detachment from the world in front of his eyes.

When viewing Tomonaga's work up close, it is easy to understand that his paintings have a unique surface. It is slippery and rough, and one can sense the artist's strong sense of care and attention to detail. There is no physical thickness, but a deep surface is created by beating up with a brush, kneading in paint, and layering. There is a rawness to the work as if it is pulsating and breathing on the screen, giving the impression that it is somehow on its way to extinction, but it is by no means modest. By viewing the work in person, you will feel its strength even more than when you see it on the screen.

Tomonaga also keeps a notebook in which he writes down words that come to him in his daily life and that interest him. When these actions lead to the creation of paintings, Asanaga's images and thoughts are depicted as drifting, vibrating things that do not form images, using the above-mentioned technique.

The indefiniteness of Asanaga's work transcends the logic of language and the world and seems to shake the place where we live in peace, even though we feel constricted. This exhibition will feature five recent paintings by Asanaga.
