Georges Labbat
This is the debut choreography by the young dancer and choreographer Georges Labbat, born in 1997. After its release in 2022, the piece quickly garnered attention and has since been performed at theaters and festivals both in France and internationally. Though the work is a solo featuring the choreographer himself, it is also a duet with a life-sized doll. The two bodies engage in quiet, controlled dialogue, suggesting various relationships such as friends, lovers, parent and child, or master and servant. Inspired by the works of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch (the 19th-century Austrian writer after whom masochism is named), the dance explores the diverse energies, exchanges of desire, and power structures that arise from the smallest form of relationship—between one’s self and another—questioning the very notion of self-identity.
