George Nobechi Exhibition

Embassy of Canada Prince Takamado Gallery
Finished

Artists

George Nobechi
The exhibition aims to introduce the shared beauty between the two countries, strengthen the bonds between Canada and Japan, and inspire the next generation to perpetuate the enduring friendship.

"Echoes" symbolizes the mountain god that can mimic sounds from distant peaks. Canada and Japan, facing each other across the Pacific, have built a longstanding friendship by echoing and deepening exchanges, much like the mountain god, over the years.

George Nobechi was born in Tokyo, Akasaka, to a Canadian father and a Japanese mother. The visual tapestry of this exhibition features magnificent landscapes brimming with nature and humanism. This collection comprises photographs taken during Nobechi's journey through western Canada in 2022 to rediscover his other homeland, as well as images capturing the beautiful daily scenes of Japan shot while traversing the Japanese archipelago. This pairing of photographs evokes shared elements between the two countries, prompting contemplation on the significant potential for future Japan-Canada relations as they celebrate the 95th anniversary of friendship.

With the collaboration of Fujifilm Corporation, the exhibition will showcase over 50 works in various forms, from photographs suspended from the ceiling to salon-style installations and prints on handmade Japanese paper.
