Fukui Countryside - Gods and Buddhas of Mount Monju

Fukui City History Museum
Finished
In recent years, Mount Monju has become popular among many people as a place in the countryside where hiking can be easily enjoyed. Monju is one of the "Echizen Gozan (Five Mountains of Echizen)," a sacred mountain said to have been founded by the famous monk Taicho in the Nara period (710-794), and many esoteric Buddhist temples, including Ryogonji, the center of faith at Monju, flourished at its foot. This exhibition focuses on Buddhist statues associated with Mount Monju to unravel the profound history and beliefs of the mountain.
