Frontiers of Impressionism: Paintings from the Worcester Art Museum

Koriyama City Museum of Art
Finished
In 2024, the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition, an exhibition tracing the impact and influence of Impressionism on Europe and the U.S. In the late 19th century, the great city of Paris attracted many painters from abroad will be held. The painters who came into contact with and studied Impressionism in Paris brought the new techniques of painting back to their home countries. This exhibition focuses on the innovations and spread of Impressionism, which overturned the traditions of Western art, and especially on the various aspects of Impressionism as it developed in various regions of the United States.

The Worcester Art Museum, located in the suburbs of Boston, USA, has been actively collecting Impressionist works since its opening in 1898. This exhibition, the first visit to Japan for most of the Impressionist collection at the Worcester Art Museum, brings together works by French Impressionists such as Monet and Renoir, who are well known in Japan, as well as German and Scandinavian artists, internationally active Sargent, and Hassam, a representative of American Impressionists. This exhibition will be a rare opportunity for visitors to experience the charm of American Impressionism, which has not been introduced in Japan for many years.
