In the fall of 2024, the international art festival "Forest Festival of the Arts Okayama - Clear-skies Country" will be held in the northern region of Okayama Prefecture.

This area, historically connecting Yamato and Izumo via the Izumo Highway, has flourished as a castle town and post town in the early modern period. It retains various legacies of traditional architecture, crafts, and performing arts. The land and forests provide fruits, timber, and other bounties, with various sustainable initiatives undertaken to preserve this richness. Among these, the use of forest resources for biomass power generation is highly regarded as a pioneering model for the SDGs. Additionally, serene spaces like the Hiruzen Highlands, Mimasaka's three hot springs, and limestone caves offer new possibilities for ecological thinking without excessive commercialization.

The name "Forest Festival of the Arts" symbolizes the diversity and abundance of this region as a place rich in natural blessings, culture, and resources vital for our lives, such as a warm climate, ample water, and food.

This art festival aims to revitalize the "blessings" provided by the "forest" through the power of art and to question, "What is truly necessary capital?" It considers cultural facilities like museums, memorial halls, and schools, along with essential life infrastructures such as water, energy, and food supplies, and the natural environment as shared capital. By involving not only artists but also architects, scientists, and folklorists, and gaining the cooperation of local people, it seeks to create "new capital."

Art reflects diverse ideas and fosters empathy in people, nurturing imagination toward new worlds and perspectives. It brings "surprise," "emotion," "excitement," "thrill," "joy of living," and "fulfillment of deep thinking and feeling." The unique ecology of the northern prefecture will transform into a "place" that refreshes people's hearts and sensitivities through the energy of art. The festival, a celebration of the forest residents of the Clear-skies Country, will be a festivity to honor this.

Event Location: 12 cities and towns in Okayama Prefecture (Tsuyama City, Takahashi City, Niimi City, Maniwa City, Misaka City, Shinjo Village, Kagamino Town, Shoo Town, Nagi Town, Nishiawakura Village, Kumenan Town, Misaki Town).
