Finnish Glass Art - Sparkle and Color in Modern Design

Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu
Finished
Furniture and tableware from Finland, a Nordic country, are widely admired internationally for their refined beauty and well-considered functionality. The popularity of Finnish design has been steadily increasing in Japan as well. The development of Finnish crafts began after gaining independence from Russia in 1917, giving rise to a succession of modern and outstanding designs.

Glass products from Finland, in particular, have become a notable field of interest. Since the 1930s, talented designers have gained international recognition. Emphasizing artistic qualities, a type called "art glass" began to flourish. By the 1950s, Finnish art glass had garnered high praise worldwide. The outcomes reflect the rich natural environment of the northern region and the expanding possibilities of glass artistry.

This exhibition showcases Finnish glass art from the 1930s to the present, featuring approximately 140 works by major designers and artists. Explore the unique expressions and diverse forms that characterize Finnish glass art.
