Exploring Beauty in the Museum: The Collection of the Oita Prefectural Museum of History

Oita Prefectural Museum of History
Finished
The Oita Prefectural Art Museum houses a diverse collection of over 5,000 artworks and materials, primarily focusing on artists associated with Oita Prefecture. Referred to as a "regional art museum," these collections are exhibited within the prefecture to provide opportunities for learning and enjoyment of local art, history, and culture. In the fiscal year 2024, the exhibition will be held at the "Oita Prefectural History Museum" in Usa City.

The northern region of Oita Prefecture, including Usa City, is renowned as the birthplace of syncretic Shinto-Buddhist culture, with landmarks such as Rokugo Manzan and Usa Shrine. Moreover, the Kunisaki Peninsula hosts art festivals centered around contemporary art, making it a region where traditional and modern art cultures flourish.

This exhibition showcases artworks from artists closely associated with the northern region of Oita, such as Shintaro Yoshihara, a beautiful portrait painter who trained many disciples in Kunisaki; Hiko Kagami, who excelled in the study of herbal medicine while practicing medicine in Anshin-in; Keijiro Ohira, a Western-style painter who exhibited at the Nitten and Prefectural Art Exhibitions; Takeshi Taguchi, who challenged innovation in Japanese painting; Koremichi Iwao, a sculptor who tragically passed away but made significant contributions to the Teiten; and Seitoku Kawai, who depicted landscapes of Oita on porcelain boxes and reliefs.

Additionally, some sections will feature exhibits from the Oita Prefectural Museum of History collection.
