Since 2017, Art Museum & Library, Ota has been holding the "Books and Art Exhibition" series. The fifth installment, titled "Teeming, Wriggling, Scintillating: Creatures from Picture Books meet Art," will feature an exhibition by three artists: Seizo Tashima, Miroco Machiko, and Hiroshi Tateno, each expressing their unique worldview through picture books and beyond.
Tashima portrays the dynamic vitality of humans and animals in motion. Machiko depicts the presence of animals, plants, and nature with expansive strokes. Tateno meticulously portrays insects and the natural world after careful research. They overflow with what they perceive from life and nature, creating narratives through their art. The resulting works have the power to unsettle the perceptions of viewers/readers, drawing them into the world of the artworks.
In this exhibition, alongside recent picture book originals, Tashima and Machiko will exhibit both two-dimensional and three-dimensional works, while Tateno will showcase drawings and notes born from the process of creating picture books.
