Entrancing Landscapes: In Search of Modern Japanese Painting

Umi-Mori Art Museum
Starts 10/12
In modern Japanese art, landscapes have been depicted in diverse ways, from well-known historical sites to nostalgic rural and coastal scenes, as well as urban settings reflecting the culture of the time. Since the Meiji era, artists visited these sites, seeing them through their modern perspectives and reinterpreting them. The rapid modernization brought new values to landscapes, influenced by tourism and the creation of national parks. This exhibition explores the relationship between Japan’s modernization and landscape painting, delving into the worlds captured by artists.
