Delightful Hyouso - Traditional Mounting Style of Japanese Paintings

Sen-oku Hakukokan Museum
Finished
Hanging scrolls, scrolls, and folding screens - “hyougu" is a format for the art of calligraphy and painting unique to East Asia. From preservation and management to decoration and presentation, wisdom and aesthetic sensibilities are concentrated in this art form.

This exhibition will focus on the tableware, which usually plays a minor role in the art of calligraphy and painting, and introduce its diverse developments and the thoughts that went into them.

The exhibition also traces the relationship between Shunsui, the 15th generation of the Sumitomo family, and Sonsen Iguchi as an example of the many activities of the mounting artist, from tailoring and repair to interior coordinator, art and culture pioneer, fellow hobbyist, and artist mediator.
