In this exhibition, Yukio Fujimoto, Kohei Takahashi, Marie Nohara, and Daisuke Kuroda, all of whom are based in the Kansai region and active in Japan and abroad, have selected artists from the museum's collection to focus their attention on and will read their works in various ways along with their portrayal of the artists. By approaching the works of Tsuruko Yamazaki and the other seven artists from the perspective of their creators, and by approaching their thoughts and handiworks in a variety of ways, they will bring to light not only new interpretations of the works but also personal histories that have not been revealed before.

Fujimoto will use Yamazaki's "Work" (1964) as a clue to examine the artist from various angles and attempt a discovery of Yamazaki's world beyond the framework of the Gutai Art Association.

Nohara focuses on Masaki Yamada, who bequeathed approximately 5,000 paintings during his lifetime. From the works and more than 50 notebooks Yamada left behind, Nohara will present a new way of appreciating abstract paintings, drawing on the essential question of painting and Yamada's thoughts on "painting" through the artist's perspective and the act of creation.

Takahashi will discuss "dialogue" in the present age from the activities of Waichi Tsutaka, who extended his connection with people, artworks, and the times through "dialogue," and examine how Tsutaka came to paint abstract paintings, as well as his spirituality.

Kuroda will focus on Atsuko Tanaka, along with three sculptors, Masakazu Horiuchi, Yoshitatsu Yanagihara, and Emile-Antoine Bourdelle, and explore the image of each artist through the words of the artists themselves and those around them.

This exhibition presents a new perspective through the method in which contemporary artists research and study the works in our collection from new perspectives and establish an exhibition space as a result of their research, i.e., a "place to deepen our thinking".
