Nanzuka is pleased to present “Urban Jungle,” Daniel Núñez's first solo exhibition in Japan at Nanzuka 2G. The exhibition will be curated by Akiinoue, a new gallery scheduled to open in 2024, directed by former gallerist of Nanzuka, Akihito Inoue.
Daniel Núñez was born in 1988 in Madrid, Spain, where he currently continues to live and work. He trained as a designer and illustrator at the ESDIP and CES schools in Madrid before pursuing his studies in visual arts.
Núñez draws influence from a variety of styles, including Art Brut and abstract neo-expressionism in the context of urban art. His mode of expression includes not only painting, but also photography and three-dimensional installation works. Such is the result of his constant study and his personal desire to create works that borders on the brink of obsession. This act enables him to develop the breadth of his own artistic language, and inevitably gives rise to new narratives.
Núñez replaces the various symbols that exist in his surroundings with his own vision of the world, and expesses them through his uniquely unparraleld style. Unassuming everyday items that exist around us, such as shoes, plants, animals, and cigarettes, are transformed through Núñez’s work into fascinating and enticing objects, and magically come to acquire a physical sense of presence.
In the exhibition, “Urban Jungle,” Núñez’s own living environment and the rhythm of his daily life are revealed through each of his works. Such feature cheerful youths and alien creatures, smoke-breathing cars and trendy fashions, as well as negative elements including slight emotions of fear, doubt and confusion. Núñez himself believes that human emotion is the very coalescence of things that are ordinarily incompatible.
