Street Dreams Studios Tokyo will be holding Cotoh's solo exhibition "Character I" from February 17th as the second exhibition celebrating the opening of Street Dreams' Tokyo branch.
Cotoh has been an illustrator since 2017 and has recently become a contemporary artist after spending the first few years of his career collaborating with musicians and fashion brands. He is an artist who creates contemporary artwork with his unique interpretation of mass-consumed illustrations and printing techniques, emphasizing that there is no boundary between illustrations, especially digital works, and contemporary artworks.
For "Character I," Cotoh will focus on well-known characters to highlight familiarity in a world where communities are rapidly dispersing and losing their sense of community due to changes in media.
Cotoh creates a sense of identity by drawing universally known and unique objects as well as actual living people in various styles. On top of the drawings, he will add words and images taken from underground culture and sentences extracted by AI.
Over 30 new hand-painted works will be exhibited.
